Thames Valley seeks name suggestions for four schools

Posted On Wednesday March 27, 2024

Now until April 11, Thames Valley District School Board is asking the public to submit name suggestions for the following schools:

  • Lord Roberts FI Public School,
  • The future Northwest London School,
  • The future Southwest London Public School,
  • And the future Woodstock Public School.

Anyone can submit potential school names through the board’s Public Input webpage until April 11, 2024 at 12:00 a.m.

Name submissions reflecting the name of an individual(s) or a family will not be considered. This includes submissions that meet the below criteria but are based on the name of an individual(s) or family.

Name submissions must reflect one or more of the following:

  • Any name connected to local Indigenous Peoples, history, and traditions that is not the name of an individual or family.
  • The name, if any, which applies to the area in which the school is located.
  • The name of the street on which the school is located.
  • The name of the district or area the school is to serve.
  • Values or principles

A Naming Selection Committee will review all submissions and recommend three options for each school. Trustees will review these options at a future board meeting. Pending Trustee approval, staff will ask school communities to vote for one of three options for their school’s name.

Additional details about Lord Roberts FI PS renaming

A School Name Review Committee was created in the Fall of 2021 made up of students, staff and community members with diverse identities, background and experiences.?The Review Committee conducted a comprehensive review of all Thames Valley schools named after individuals.

12 schools were identified by the Review Committee to engage in public consultation regarding the name of the school.

Lord Roberts FI Public School was one of the first two schools selected for public input. In the Fall of 2023, the Lord Roberts school community had the opportunity to provide input on the school’s name.

After receiving the input, Trustees supported the decision to move forward with the renaming process for the school at the January 30, 2024 Board Meeting.
